|2008 Live Radio Shows|
|Directed by Lawrence Nepodahl||Sunday, April 13 at Stage Coach Players Theater in DeKalb|
Stage Coach will be continuing its live broadcast on WLBK of radio classics this Spring with two of the best known radio dramas from the radio era. "The Hitchhiker" and "Sorry, Wrong Number," both by Lucille Fletcher, will be broadcast from our newly renovated theatre on Sunday, April 13 at 7:00 PM, with Lawrence Nepodahl directing.
THE HITCH-HIKER is a ghost thriller, and has the quality of an anecdote out of American folklore, drawing as it does on the local color and place-names of the United States. It is the tale of an average motorist, who sets out to drive from Brooklyn to California, and early on the journey encounters a strange and inexplicable hitch-hiker. Efforts to explain, then avoid, and finally destroy the constantly appearing figure along the highway culminates in an amazing and terrifying climax in New Mexico.
SORRY, WRONG NUMBER. is the tale of a neurotic invalid, whose only contact with the outside world is her phone. One night, because of a crossed wire, she hears plans for a murder. She frantically tries to enlist help through the only means at her disposal to no avail and her growing terror and realization of the truth, make this a full character portrait not only of herself but of the unseen murderer.
