It's Over the River and Through the Woods to Hoboken, New Jersey we go! Joe DiPietro's play takes us to the home of Frank and Aida Gianelli. In fact, everyone is invited to the Gianelli home every Sunday evening for dinner. It's the Italian way- family, faith and food! "Tengo famiglia!" It's too bad not much of the family is left to invite (Florida and San Diego were calling their names!). Their inlaws, Emma and Nunzio Cristano, who live right down the street, are frequent guests, and their lone grandson, Nick, religiously shows up every Sunday. However, this might all change.

The play begins with Nick's BIG ANNOUNCEMENT- he's received a promotion at work but, it's in Seattle! Just like the rest of the family, Nick wants a chance to establish his own life, one filled with freedom and opportunity instead of constant questioning and scrutiny from the family. The Gianellis and Cristanos are devastated that Nick would even consider the idea of moving away. They have to think of a way to keep Nick in Hoboken. If only there was something he wanted in Hoboken more than his job in Seattle. A WOMAN!

Unbeknownst to Nick, Sunday dinner will consist of veal, salad, bread, cannolis and a blind date! Ah! How mortifying! And, of course, they are expected to fall madly in love and live happily ever after. THE END. Well, as we all know, life tends to be a bit more complicated than that.

Cast Requirements

For characters, I need two males and two females to play seventy year olds. I will accept anyone in their forties and up to play these roles. Please make a note that we will use make-up to age the actors if necessary. As for the other two characters, I need one male and one female in their late twenties-early thirties.

In addition, if anyone knows a New Jersey or Italian accent, I would love to hear them do it at auditions.

Another special note is...one of the characters (seventy year old male) needs to learn how to play some chords and a simple tune on the mandolin.
